Dimitri from Paris via Tokyo stamps his Parisian trademark firmly in the grooves of Disorient's debut EP. The man responsible for the recent renaissance in French music (the export value of his music now outweighs that of Brie), most notably with the success of his Sacre Bleu album and his collaborations with the Idjut Boys, Cruel Grand Orchestra and Yellow Productions. Capitalising on his many trips to Japan, Dimitri adds a little Japanese spice to his usual French cuisine.
This three track spectacular kicks off with Back in the Daze, a direct hit in the disco boogie vein. This one sails straight through the goal posts into Cafe Bongo, knocking over two cappucinos, one expresso and slightly damaging a croissant. Serious House for apartment seekers.
Love Love Mode, featuring the sumptuous vocal acrobatics of Kiss Kiss Kissen, is a laid back excursion into Nippon air space. Kitsch meets Chanel in a catwalk soundtrack. If you've got a space hopper use it - this track is seriously bouncy.
Toujours L'Amore - Even Inspector Clouseau falls in love. After a frustrating day tracking down the elusive Pink Panther Clouseau relaxes in the lounge of Hotel L'Amour. The Chief Inspector's daughter, Claudette de la Tour sweeps past leaving her scent. Clouseau is in a love lost daze. Claudette uses Old Spice. Loofa beats for lounge lizards.
Disorient, from the men who collect stamps and use shower caps, set the status quo for the first ever Japanese/UK label. A serious attempt to connect the Tokyo and London vibe with a string of floating pontoons stuck together with selotape. Here Dimitri sets the pace followed shortly by a plethora of wicked Japanese talent. Stay tuned.
