Hollie Cook picks for Electric Brixton

Apr 14, 2014

Hollie picks 5 favourites ahead of her performance with Ziggy Marley on 23rd April:

Neneh Cherry - Manchild

Hollie: Neneh Cherry has always been one of my favourite pop stars. I love the melody of this song, and the video is cool, simple and creative. And she has her kids in it! Brand new baby didn't stop her from fulfilling her ambitions as an artist!

The Lady In The Tutti Frutti Hat

Hollie: I'm a big fan of Carmen Miranda's tropical image and love her performances. The sets on these 1940's films are so elaborate and spectacular and would be my dream for a stage production! Giant bananas!!

Nina Simone - Ain't Got No...I've Got Life

Hollie: Nina Simone live! Heart and soul. This version is incredible. Her band are amazing and the footage from the Harlem Cultural festival looks like somewhere I wanna be.

The Little Mermaid - Under The Sea

Hollie: I don't care what anyone says, this is an amazing song. So joyous. Life under the sea couldn't be more appealing.

Grace Jones - I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)

Hollie: This was one of my favourite songs when I was a kid. Something about the creepy synths drew me in! And Grace Jones was always so intriguing to me. Totally beautiful and powerful with wicked tunes!
