The FIFA 2014 World Cup is almost upon us and it’s no secret that we have a love affair with the host nation Brazil and its music. So to join the celebration of the tournament we are going to give you a Mr Bongo inspired musical tour of the host cities of the World Cup. The first match is between Brazil and Croatia, and will kick off at the Arena de Sao Paulo on Thursday 12th June, so that’s where we are going to start our selection too.
Brazil’s largest city and the world’s seventh largest city by population. 11 million people live in the city, with almost 20 million in the metropolitan area. It’s crowded, full of life and one of our favourite cities in the world. It has a vibrant music scene for both new and old music and the record stores you can find there are legendary. When we visited Sao Paulo we always used to check Tony’s Hits (sadly now closed), Discosete and Locomotiva.
Check this video we found online filmed in Tony's Hits. Will give you an idea of the sort of records they had on display there:
Its stores such as these that have been the discovery point for some of the biggest records we have released on the label and a great source of secret weapons for our DJ sets too.
So to celebrate the World Cup & Sao Paulo here are some of our favourite tracks from Paulistanos, as well as tracks that are dedicated to the city:

Os Mutantes - Bat Macumba (1969)
