Legendary UK reggae drummer & MC Horseman is about to release his debut album on Mr Bongo. Its titled 'Dawn Of The Dread' and features the equally legendary Prince Fatty on production duties. The 2nd single from the album 'Computer' is a super catchy ode to gaming in days gone by. It's a joyful slab of '80s video game nostalgia, and the the video sees Horseman go up against a series of bosses, levelling up by demonstrating his ability to out-skank his foes.
According to Horseman, the track and subsequent video were born out of a creative block solved by twiddling an effects box: "We originally recorded the rhythm track for a different song, but we started playing around with an effects box, I got on this vibe about Commodore 64s, ZXSpectrums, XBox and Playstations and the lyrics flowed out."
We spoke to the directors of the video to ask them what the inspiration was behind this mad but brilliant video...
"We just wanted to make something as textured and rich in variety as Horseman's music. We made human sized puppets, then filmed it because we found this idea absurd, crazy, and fun to watch. You can find references to a lot of games we used to play and love when we were younger and even now. "
