Celebrating 25 years of Mr Bongo: Terry Callier

In late October 1989, David 'Mr Bongo' Buttle opened his first record shop, underneath Daddy Kool’s Reggae Store on Berwick Street in London. 25 years later and we are still flying the flag for quality music, and are now celebrating a quarter of a century of Mr Bongo.

As part of our 25 years retrospective we will be looking back at some of our favourite releases. Today it's the turn of...

Terry Callier

Terry was born in the Chicago in 1945. He learned piano, was a childhood friend of Curtis Mayfield, Major Lance and Jerry Butler, and began singing in doo-wop groups in his teens. His illustrious recording career spanned 44 years and 18 albums and many singles. His live performances will always be remembered as truly legendary. Terry very sadly passed away in his home town in October 2012. His memory will live on forever through his music.

We had the pleasure of working with Terry on six albums over the course of eight years from 2001 to 2009:
