Celebrating 25 years of Mr Bongo: Blo - Chapter One

Thanks to the number of fantastic releases and artists on the label, we are continuing our 25th anniversary celebrations into 2015.

Today we celebrate the re-issue of 'Chapter One' by the mighty 'Blo'.

Blo were a trio from Nigeria, the name an acronym of the founding members’ names – Berkely ‘Ike’ Jones on guitar, Laolu ‘Akins’ Akintobi on drums and Mike ‘Gbenga’ Odumosu on bass. Accruing fame over the years for their unique blend of afro-beat, funk, rock and psychedelia, they are also notable for being the first rock group to emerge from Africa. You can read more about them here.

They released five albums between 1973 and 1979 on EMI and Afrodisia, original copies of which fetch serious money.

'Chapter One' is a masterpiece of Afro grooves, rock and psychedelics and remains one of our favourite albums, perhaps of all time. It really is that good:

We included 'Chant To Mother Earth' on our 25 Years Of Mr Bongo: 1989-2014 compilation.
