A brilliant and unique album out of Finland on Puro Recordings by The Sumuposauttaja Band led by Sami Keinäne. On 'Work and Play' Sami leads a 11-piece ensemble featuring Tampere jazz mainstays and the percussion section from the Afrobeat/Balearic group Maajo. The sound can be described as Arthur Russell’s intuitive minimalism meets West African pop and the polished 80s sophisti-pop of bands like Everything But The Girl or Orange Juice. The album captures an organic, "unhurried sunny afternoon" vibe. Lovely stuff, and a limited edition pressing of 300 copies.
